12th Anniversary Celebrated

Tong-Len celebrated its 12th Anniversary and Thanks Day on the 19th November, this being the date on which the first hostels were opened by His Holiness The Dali Lama in 2011.

Since the tenth anniversary in 2014, it has been the custom to present Tong-Len awards to individuals or organisations who have made a significant contribution to society and share Tong-Len’s vision of ‘compassion in action’.  This year awards were presented to the Delek Hospital, Mr.Dawa Tzering and the Gunjan organization.

Jamyang gave an annual report and mentioned in particular the distress of the families following their eviction from Charan Khad.  Jamyang made a special award to Tashi Lhamo, project manager of Tong-Len, who is going to the USA.  She has been with the charity from the very beginning and has been crucial to Tong-Len’s success.  All of us wish her and her family all the best for the future.

The children from the youngest to the oldest gave wonderful demonstrations in dance, song and poetry.  The event was wonderfully presented by Pinki, Poonam and their team.

The children thanked their sponsors and all those who had supported Tong-Len during the year.

It was a joy to see so many of the families of the children at the event who were all so proud of their achievements.

I was lucky enough to attend the 12th anniversary celebrations. It was the first time I had been to the Tong-Len hostels, and I was really impressed with the surroundings, the organisation and health and happiness of the children. The performances by the kids were great, and the older students were very impressive and so confident. Congratulations to everyone involved in this excellent project.
